The newly repaved track at Lime Rock Park will welcome a sensational group of cars to the traditional fall festival this year.
Feature races for the Ferrari Shell Historic Challenge, two international invitational races for Formula Junior, a special race for pre-war historic cars and the usual brilliant array of sports GT and racing cars will fill the track on Friday, Saturday and Monday (29 August – 1 September 2008). While “Sunday in the Park”, the most spectacular motoring extravaganza of the north east coast, will delight those who come to relax, picnic and enjoy the judging and prize giving.
While the cars, as usual, will be the stars, the track itself will see the vintage cars aboard for the first time since the extraordinary efforts put in by Skip Barber and his associates in a seven week marathon that resulted in a record-breaking American Le Mans race weekend in early July. Since that auspicious curtain-riser, even more improvements have been completed and this, in addition to the traditional attraction and appeal of the event, indicate a record entry of rapid and important cars.
Sunday in the Park will host the 26th Lime Rock Park car show, the Shelby Show featuring GT350 Mustangs, Cobras and other delectable offerings from the brain of Carroll Shelby. Other special exhibits will include Aston Martin DB’s, Porsches, Pick of the Paddock and the Chairman’s Choice. Following Malcolm Pray in 2006 and Peter Sachs in 2007, William Binnie will be featured as the Collector of the Year 2008. Binnie is a four-time Vintage Sports Car Club of America stalwart who, in addition to exhibiting three of his favorite historic cars, will also show the Lola race cars with which he won his class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2007 and 2005.
A splendid weekend promised at the historic Lime Rock Park with on-track activities, the Sunday show, the brilliant museum-quality Rolex Moments in Time display with some of the most important cars the world has ever seen, the collectables mall and the traditional Lime Rock Swap Meet. No better way to celebrate Labor Day weekend than to come to the park.
