SEE THE SILVER ARROW FLY
Chuck Queener, the renowned automotive artist, has just finished the artwork for this years Commemorative Poster for the Lime Rock Vintage Festival. It depicts the absolutely stunning 1939 Mercedes W 154 Grand Prix Race car which will be a star attraction at the event on Labor Day Weekend. Very few of these amazing cars survive and this actual car participated in some of the extraordinary races of the late 1930s when the silver arrows of Mercedes and the stunning rear engined Auto Unions designed by Doctor Porsche fought for success on the race tracks of the world at speeds approaching 200 miles an hour.
VIC ELFORD TO BE STAR GUEST AT LIME ROCK VINTAGE FESTIVAL
The guest of honor this year will be superlative road racer Vic Elford. Elford scored many outstanding successes in road racing for Porsche, including memorable victories and lap records in the unforgettable 917 but perhaps he should be best known for his unearthly talents on pure road courses like the Targa Florio and the Nurburgring and for his Rallying success on world famous events like the Monte Carlo Rally. Elford will speak at the Friday night competitors welcome party and will be available for autograph sessions and book signings throughout the weekend. He will also act as a judge at Sunday in the Park, on of the most diverse and unique cars shows at any race track in America.
ENDUROS TO DEBUT AT LIME ROCK VINTAGE FESTIVAL
In the past 27 Lime Rock Vintage Festivals most of the races have been quite limited in duration...to about fifteen laps or about 24 miles. This year at least two of the races will be of nearly an hour in duration allowing strategy, pits stops for driver changes and even refuelling. This will add a new dimension to what is already one of the most popular events at the track. Amongst other special features this year will be a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Morgan Car Company and a really splendid turnout of Morgans is expected...already 4 of the iconic three wheeler prewar racing Morgans are entered in one race and the later, more conventional four wheeled Morgans are expected to give a good account of themsleves in the race for fifties sports cars.
