Bruce Richter: Better than an autograph
I was at a Lime Rock Labor Day Vintage event a few years back, and there in his concession tent was none other than Carroll Shelby himself. I thought, "Wouldn't it be great to pick up a Shelby 350 model and have him sign it." So I ran over to the window, laid down my 40 hard-earned, got an ivory white one with the blue stripe, walked up to him, and requested his John Hancock please, sir to which he repled, "I got a god damned autograph session in an hour and I'll be damned if I'm gonna spend my time here doing the same f___in' thing. I'm gittin the hell outta here..." After a half second of shock and awe, my buddies and I just burst out laughing. Now, every time I look at that model on the shelf in my garage, I chuckle and think, "Priceless. The story beats the signature anyday." Only at Lime Rock.
